When I finished to talk with someone I close the conversation because I like to maintain the vertical bar clean. A few minutes later the conversations reopens again all alone. This behaviour repeats constantly with many distinct conversations.
Steps to reproduce
Close Conversation, wait a few minutes (random time) until the Converstations reopens automatically.
Expected behavior
Closed conversations must stay closed. Direct Messages folder must show only not closed conversations (active ones).
I use Mattermost mac client (from App Store) version 5.12.1
Server: Mattermost Version 10.5.8
Database Schema Version: 135
Build Number: 15703222515
Database: mysql
I just wanted to add that I’ve also received a Report of this behavior from one of my Users.
I’m unable to reproduce it myself but maybe this has something to do with having multiple Clients/ different Cached States?
@benito do you use just the MM Desktop App or also another Client like Mobile or Web?
Yes, I also use iPhone Mobile client with the same session logged in. I have closed session on my mobile device and will wait if the same behaviour occurs. I will tell you the result in a couple of days. Thanks for the response.
It seems that is the issue. After logout session on my phone the closed conversations does not appear on desktop client. If I open a conversation on my phone, it opens on desktop client as well. It makes sense. Issue resolved. Thanks
thx for testing.
Could you clarify some more Points:
So after logging out of the iOS app you closed conversations on desktop and they did not reappear?
After logging back into the iOS app do chats reappear again after closing ?
I have been experiencing this issue ever since our company moved on MM.
It is extremely annoying as the only way to fix it is to uninstall all the mobile clients, clean direct conversation on the desktop client, and then reinstall the mobile clients (iOS, iPadOS).
No points listing versions, as MM version 4.x, 5.x and still not fixed in 6.0 RC and all the associated macOS, Linux, iOS and iPadOS versions over the past years.
Additional observation for quick reproduction:
Manually kill the mobile client app
Close direct conversion from the desktop client
Reopen the mobile app, and closed conversations reappear.
If the mobile app is not killed/restarted, the conversation just pops back when the mobile app runs through regular background sync (double pain if more than one mobile app is used)
If conversations are closed from the mobile app, some do actually stay closed (again, painful given the UX experience on the mobile to delete a conversation), but randomly, some conversations seem sticky and impossible to close; I never figured out the pattern there.
If all logged-in devices are active(app in the foreground for mobile app), one can close SOME conversations, some are just impossible till uninstalling the mobile app.
