# Delete/Rename channel problem

I accidentally created a private channel, but wanted it to be public. There is no option to make it public or delete it and even if I rename it if I go to create a public channel it says it already exists.

Only system admins can convert private channels to public. You will need to ask your system admin about this if you’re not an admin yourself.

I am the system admin and cant work out how do do this.

@funkytwig just wanted to add on to what Amy said, if you are already trying to convert the channels from private to public via the steps in the doc but are having issues doing so, let us know what error you’re facing (if any).

If you are getting errors, a screenshot would be great in helping us get a better look into what’s going on.
