LOL, 2 YEARS and you cannot implement such a simple feature?! I was hired to research the best on-premises chat solution and everybody suggested to look for Mattermost. Scheduled messages is something that even the archaic Synology Chat has. Such a missed opportunity.
I’d suggest you to be a bit more charitable in your responses @sanebg. If you take the time to read the thread, you will see that the feature has already been implemented.
@agnivade , Its beta though, not in production -13 days ago according to the thread. When will it be rolled out to users? Having in in beta is no use to those of us waiting for this feature.
Edit - it was first announced 20 days ago, actually.
@StevoS - The code is currently in master. It will be available as a stable feature in v10.3 out in December.
Appreciate your patience in this. If you want to, you are most welcome to try out a build from master to play around with the feature.
I have upgraded our Mattermost server to v10.3.1 but I cannot see this function. Do I have to enable it?
Scheduled messages is now available in v10.3 of Mattermost with Professional and Enterprise licenses. Here’s the docs page for more details: Schedule messages - Mattermost documentation
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the feature and the great feedback in this thread.
@fral I’m not sure which version of the product you have, but if you’re using a free edition, that’s likely the reason you’re not seeing the feature.
Whoa - wait, so those of us using the open source versions cannot use this?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
If this is the case we ABSOLUTELY are going to have to make an open source version of this for the community. This is something SO MANY of us have been waiting for for FLIPPING YEARS!!!
Mattermost needs to be more transparent in its releases as this is only for the paying enterprise customers. a fact left out of any documentation i had seen or been made aware of by the good folks here like. People are upset because this is a basic feature in every other competitor. the engineering myopia here is strong.
@StevoS is exactly right. If we had known your intentions to put this behind a paywall we - as a community - would have implemented this YEARS ago. We were led along - AND FEEL LIED TO AND DECEIVED - thinking this feature was being added…
WELL IT WAS NOT ADDED. This feature is simply not available to most of us who look to forums and contribute to these open source efforts.
You are ostracizing your, arguably, most valuable users - the free ones who give back and who are most vocal.
These consistent kinds of actions we’re seeing are the ones that push projects towards being forked.
VERY BAD MOVE.
Yes, I’m currently on the free editon so that explains it.
I don’t usually weigh in on these kinds of discussions, but the users above are absolutely right.
I’ve always supported most of your decisions regarding the free edition. I understood the rationale behind adding “Free Edition,” “Unlicensed Version,” and “Please Upgrade” labels throughout the app—you’re running a business, and generating revenue is your right.
But this time, you’ve taken it too far. As others have pointed out, this feature is essentially a baseline offering across nearly all competitors. Making it a paid feature is simply unreasonable.
As someone who has consistently championed Mattermost within my tech circle—encouraging friends, colleagues, and organizations to adopt it—this feels like a significant betrayal of the community. Unfortunately, I think this is where I have to stop recommending it.
I sincerely hope you’ll reconsider this decision, and I’ll now only be keeping an eye on the forums in the hope of seeing a change.
So bummed that it’s not available for free users! I was so excited to finally have this for my small team. We are an international team, and it always made me feel guilty whenever I had to message them during hours in which they shouldn’t be working. You see, it took me so long to be able to convince my team to switch over to Mattermost. They were so adamant on staying with our previous messaging platform - I kept trying to sell Mattermost to them - Mattermost’s philosophies, features, and nice community.
So when I heard of this feature when it was still in its planning stage, I couldn’t hold my excitement! I was so happy and relieved, I thought it was going to be one of the best Christmas presents ever for me and my team! They were finally going to be able to truly appreciate Mattermost! So when I found out that we actually won’t be able to have this feature due to our plan, I was disappointed. It didn’t really show anywhere in the docs/discussions about this feature that it was only going to be available for Enterprise/Pro users. So disappointed I hope this feature becomes available for all, it’s a nice quality of life feature that most messaging competitors already have. Please consider allowing us free users to enjoy this feature. Thank you.
this is a letdown for it to not be in the self-hosted OSS version. we self host so we can guarantee security for our community. @matthewbirtch we are nonprofit too, and if we did this our community would have our heads.
Not putting it in the OSS codebase is also a low blow after this long on the roadmap.
The code for scheduled posts is in the public Mattermost repo.
I’m not trying to be picky, and if it is in the public repo then that’s great, but in my opinion, this is something I would want to be openly available for all right out of the box. It just feels like we free users got blindsided because we Mattermost users were promised this feature (and nowhere did it say it was a feature exclusive for paid users). Because of this promise, we followed and supported the development of this feature for so long, only to be massively, massively disappointed.
@harshilsharma63 what point are you trying to make? Do you have a suggested path that is clear in your mind given that info?
