from 5.28.1 to next major version with db schema modification
in general which version includes db schema modification up to 9.11

Our guidance is to get to the first available ESR (Extended Support Release), and then ESR to ESR. See Version archive - Mattermost documentation
So, here, you’d want to get to 5.31.9, then 5.37.10, then 6.3.10, and so forth.

Also - if you’re running MySQL, once you get to a supported version, you’ll need to migrate to Postgres before 11.x comes out. Migration guidelines from MySQL to PostgreSQL - Mattermost documentation But do that with as up-to-date a version of Mattermost as possible, as the newer migration tools will include bug fixes, lessons learned, etc.
