Confusing change of controls

Expected:

  • When I am drafting a message and have a “Preview” button in the top right of the edit window, after I post and edit, I should see the same “Preview” button in the top right of the edit window

Observed:

  • Observed, when I edit a message I posted, the top right button is no longer “Preview” it’s to add an emoji.

@matthewbirtch can you help update Compass Design System with the expectation that we have consistent controls, and link back here?

@jwilander @streamer45 @hmhealey @marianunez can I have your support for the Compass Design System, and the work of our design organization, so that we can mobilize all of PDE, plus non-PDE, to file tickets based on the requirements?

What I am seeing is this highly manual “whack a mole” where PDE waits for someone to file a ticket, the default is to scope the ticket specifically so it’s on a silver platter for a junior developer, to fix a narrow issue.

That’s not the right approach–we don’t solve the root cause, which is the UX requirements from Compass Design System.

What we need to do when we find a UX issue that is emblematic of a broader problem is update our UX requirements, then provide the time, space and prioritization to fix things in an efficient, bulk update way, rather than in dozens of one-off patches.

100% agreed, in this specific case, we have have an ongoing tech debt item to bring the edit post box to have consistency with the create post. We are prioritizing this and will support our feature of edit attachment as well. This will complete this core feature and reduce the broken windows around editing posts.
