Link preview only works on mobile app

Troubleshooting

Hi there,
I installed an own mattermost-server and love it.
One day ago the link-preview stoped working on browser and win-app for all users. It still workes fine on mobile. I did not change anything.
Can you help me restoring it?

Hello @NebuKadneZaar, I’m sorry to hear that you’re having issues, I do believe we’ll be able to solve this though!

Are you seeing any error messages in your Mattermost logs? It may help to change the Mattermost logging level to DEBUG and then replicate the issue.

The Log doesnt show in the browser-version or the windows-app.
But I can write an email to the support with my mobile-app. It shows the log too.

Ok,
link-preview works with some sites.
Others, like youtube, dont work.

Since you mentioned that it works on the mobile app and assuming that Link Preview is enabled, this would be the first thing that I will look at.

I do wonder if it is possible that a website that doesn’t have meta tags such as the following would not have a URL preview because of the lack of meta content to be served in the preview. See below for example of meta content, which is what is shown in URL previews.

I am not sure if this applies here because Youtube and Amazon provide those meta tags, dont they?

I’d also like to note that for YouTube scraping and loading, your supposed to have a Google API key in your configuration (and if that isn’t still a part of the Mattermost setup, it is required by Google to scrape and fetch from their platforms)

Yeah I have an API Key configured.

Fun fact: Youtube preview worked on on vid on thursday. Could be reproduced on thursday.
Doesnt work anymore right now.

By any chance, do you have any specific CORS policies enabled, or same-site script-security measures enabled that are different from the configuration explicitly mentioned by the Mattermost install documentation?
