Outdated Mattermost at the windows store

Hi @amy.blais,

  1. following Important Update: Changes to Desktop App Auto-Updater - Announcements - Mattermost Discussion Forums I realized that the Mattermost desktop version currently distributed by the windows app store is 5.13.0 (“last updated 9/2/2025”).
  2. Which when installed proposes to auto-update (using the built in auto updater) to 6.0.4, which defeats the whole purpose of removing the auto-updater and pointing to the store.

I’d suggest to pull 6.0.4, and only push a 6.0.5 when the windows store has been updated, and a working automated process has been established to keep it updated.

Regards

Ulf

I was about to mention the same thing. This will be confusing for our users, when they switch to the store version for a better update experience, only for an auto update prompt popping up that they have to ignore :\ This is the reason why we haven’t switched earlier to the Windows Store version of Mattermost.

5.13.0 is the current “Extended” version of the Desktop client which is supported until August 2026. So I suspect we’ll only get a new 6.x version in the store when there is a new Extended release in August.

I understand that the recommendation for organizations is to deploy the msi via Intune or group policies. Unfortunately that is currently not an option for us. I think it would be great if both release tracks were available in the store. The regular release alongside the older Extended release (which is missing some nice features like being able to open channels in new tabs/windows)

Edit: I just realized that 5.13.0 is indeed a bit outdated.. (released 2025-08-15) Why isn’t 5.13.2 distributed in the store?! 5.13.0 is missing some security fixes…

FWIW, I made the switch to the Windows Store version today, and 6.0.3 was installed.

When I try and update using the Windows store, it tells me that I need to sign in to verify my age to ensure that the content is age-appropriate.

Is there any way to install updates without getting a Microsoft account, other than downloading the latest executable from the Mattermost website?
