Summary
I was not able to get Mattermost running using a SOCKS proxy (version 4 oder 5 would be ok).
There are several documents about config proxy settings but it is not clear if these documents apply for the Windows Desktop variant too.
Everything is working well in the browser (Firefox + FoxyProxy Addon).
It is not clear to me if it is not possible to use the App over a proxy or if I missed to right way to configure it.
I even tried external tools like proxychains, what is working well for nearly everything under Linux, but I was not successful under Windows.
So my question is if it is possible to run Mattermost using a SOCKS proxy? If not is such a feature planned in the future?

Thank you for raising your question regarding the use of a SOCKS proxy with the Mattermost Desktop app. I understand that you’ve been able to get it working in your browser with a similar setup, but are experiencing difficulty achieving the same results with the desktop variant.
As of the current releases, the Mattermost Desktop app does not natively support SOCKS proxy settings. However, I can understand how this feature may be beneficial for you and potentially to other users as well. I encourage you to open a feature request on the Mattermost UserVoice page to express your interest in this potential addition. This is a great platform for our developers to see what features are most requested by our users and to plan their work accordingly.
In the meantime, as a workaround, you might consider using a global proxy setting for your OS, though the effectiveness would depend on your specific networking configuration and system administration.
Should you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to help.
