Show one of two pictures depending on display

Dear All:

Is it possible to show one of two pictures depending if the user is reading using a landscape or a portrait orientation for his display?

To be precise, I am hoping to show something like
https://mm1.moscito.org/api/v4/files/fypp6w77sjnt3ndo9ywap47kbc/preview
if the user is on a computer screen, and
https://mm1.moscito.org/api/v4/files/mnoxwbwottgzmrt3pmc5cm5ieo/preview
if the user is on a smartphone or some other similar portrait-oriented device

best wishes, Bo-Yin in Taipei

Hello Bo-Yin,

Thanks for bringing up this interesting point. Directly within Mattermost, the ability to display different images based on device orientation is currently not supported. This is because Mattermost primarily operates as a text-based communication platform and the feature you’re asking for typically falls within the scope of responsive web design, commonly handled by webpage coding languages like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

However, your suggestion is quite valuable and could serve as an enhancement for our platform. We appreciate innovative suggestions like this as they inspire to improve and evolve, meeting our users’ needs in the best possible way.

I’d recommend you to post this as a feature idea on our Feature Idea Forum where it can be upvoted by others who share your interest. This is how we gauge community interest and plan our future development roadmap.

In the meantime, as a workaround, you can design something outside of Mattermost, like creating a responsive HTML page which changes images based on display size, and share the URL to that page in your posts.

Keep your creative suggestions coming. We appreciate your contribution to the community!

Best wishes,
