Observed behavior
No notification is received and error message displayed on button.
The issue started today, for all users.

Open Mattermost Desktop 6.2.1 on macOS. 2. Go to Settings > Notifications. 3. Enable desktop notification sounds and select a valid message notification sound, for example Ripple. 4. Use the built-in "Test notification" button under notification troubleshooting. 5. Alternatively, receive a DM/mention notification. 6. Compare with Mattermost in a web browser using the same server/account. ### Expected behavior Mattermost Desktop should show the notification and play the selected notification sound. ### Observed behavior Mattermost Desktop accepts/sends the test notification, but no notification sound plays. The same Mattermost server/account does play notification sounds correctly in the browser, so this appears specific to the Desktop app notification path. macOS notification settings for Mattermost are enabled, notification sounds are enabled in macOS, Focus is off, and system audio is not muted. Changing the Mattermost notification sound from Hello to Ripple and fully restarting the Desktop app did not fix it. ### Log Output ```shell [2026-06-18 13:06:05.248] [error] [Validator] IPC validation failed at argument 3: "value" is not allowed to be empty [2026-06-18 13:06:53.503] [error] [Validator] IPC validation failed at argument 3: "value" is not allowed to be empty [2026-06-18 13:08:15.670] [error] [Validator] IPC validation failed at argument 3: "value" is not allowed to be empty ``` ### Additional Information This may be related to https://github.com/mattermost/desktop/pull/3833, which added runtime IPC validation. In Mattermost Desktop v6.2.1, `NOTIFY_MENTION` is validated with non-empty string requirements for arguments 2, 3, and 4: ```ts ipcMain.handle(NOTIFY_MENTION, ipcValidate(handleMentionNotification, [ Joi.string().allow('').required(), Joi.string().allow('').required(), Joi.string().min(1).required(), Joi.string().min(1).required(), Joi.string().min(1).required(), Joi.boolean().required(), Joi.string().allow('').required(), ])); ``` The Mattermost web client running inside the Desktop app calls: ```ts window.desktopAPI.sendNotification(title, body, channelId, teamId, url, silent, soundName); ``` The Desktop app receives that call through its `NOTIFY_MENTION` IPC handler. Since `argument 3` is `teamId`, it looks like test notifications and/or DM notifications may pass an empty `teamId`. The new Desktop IPC validation rejects the call before `handleMentionNotification` / `NotificationManager.displayMention(...)` can complete and before the selected notification sound is sent to the renderer via `PLAY_SOUND`. So this appears to be a Desktop app compatibility/regression issue at the IPC boundary, not a browser/web-only issue. The same Mattermost account/server plays notification sounds correctly in a normal browser. I checked open issues and did not find an existing open issue with this exact `IPC validation failed at argument 3` notification-sound symptom.
