User groups and Enterprise plan

Hello,

I am currently in the process of migrating some of the community groups i participate in on Discord to Mattermost (a couple of game communities and a big friends group, about 60 people) in order to self host them.

The only big feature mattermost (free) is missing compared to Discord is user groups and advanced ACL. I’m open to subscribe to a paid plan to support Mattermost development, but 10$/user/month is just way too much for this use-case.

I kinda understand why advanced ACL is paywalled, as it is definitively a feature that most corporations would like, and private communities can do without. However user groups could really be useful for private communities.

Would you consider adding the user groups feature (and maybe a part of advanced ACL) to the Free plan (maybe in a more limited version), which could be useful for Non-profits, public communities managed by volunteers, or private friends groups and such where LDAP sync, SSO or 24h support are definitively not needed.

Heya @britaliope! Welcome to the Mattermost forums, and thanks for your feedback and for considering Mattermost for your communities! I encourage you to submit your suggestion on our UserVoice forum so our team can track interest and gather more input from the community. Let us know if you have any questions during your migration!

Thank you ! I’ve done it here General: Hot (1207 ideas) – Mattermost Feature Proposal Forum

Migration have been pretty straightforward on the mattermost side so far and i’m pretty happy to how it’s turning out

Great point! A limited user groups feature in the free plan could greatly benefit non-profits and private communities. Have you pitched this to Mattermost directly? They might consider a community-tier option. Meanwhile, any workarounds you’ve explored?
