10000 self host cap

10000 message history cap on selfhost instance, why?

I’ve got a 6 user Mattermost setup for several years. (No business)
Most recent update limits history to 10000.
Why?
Now I have to find another alternative, and delete my Mattermost setup.

I would say that decision is money-driven.

You could look after “Mostlymatter”, a fork of Mattermost without the user and number of messages limits. Or you could build the binaries yourself and edit the limits.go file before that.

thanks, will look into that!

Totally agree! We have been using MatterMost for years… the last upgrade to 11.x and the 10k limit was a shock. We routinely search for older posts/messages going back years. Luckly, we did a backup of the server before the upgrade so we were able to revert back. We are a smaller team and use MatterMost just for the messaging.

Looks like we will also be looking at the GitHub version. Bad enough most companies are transitioning from perpetual licenses to subscription plans, now limits on something we have been using for years? SHAME!

Hi,
we were already thinking about alternatives, when I ran across the Team Edition of Mattermost. Installing the tar version from https://releases.mattermost.com did the trick for our small team.

So you mean that the Team Edition doesn’t have this kind of limitation? And what about the hard user limits?

There is no limit to the messages but according to the documentation the number of users is limited to 250 and there is no SSO. We are not even close with the number of users.

There IS a limit. see below screenshot

You’re using Entry Edition. We’re talking about Team Edition right now

I had the same problem, when I tried first but like you, I was stuck in the “Entry” Edition. I do not know why (cache?). After this exchange Limitations on Team edition - #7 by puresecure I tried again and it worked. Good luck!
