Mattermost 5.2.2 no window opening on MacOS when starting

Another person affected by the bug.

I downloaded the nighty v5.3, logged into the server again, and now it’s back working.
Just wanted say thanks for the quick temporary fix! You saved my day!

The official 5.3 build will be out soon :crossed_fingers:

I am having the exact same issue with Version 5.3.1 (46002745061)

I am having this same issue with version 5.3.1 on MacOS 13.3. No window will appear when I open the application, or click on the dock icon. Program starts but no window. Tried restarting computer, force quit app, etc.

Hi @scottopia & @JLB and welcome to the Mattermost forums!

Just to confirm, you both are having this issue with the Appstore version, right?

Yeah, it’s the App Store version for me.

Yes, AppStore - one thing to add - at one point I got an in-app notification that there was an update available and I clicked on the link/button.

Same issue here. How do I fix this before the team is back online tomorrow?

Hi @outfiteleven and welcome to the Mattermost forums!

I’m unsure about the reasons and ways to work around this since I’m not running OSX here and cannot reproduce the problem, but I’ve alerted the developers about that already in the hopes that they’ll be able to jump on that issue ASAP.

I deleted the App Store version and downloaded the * M1 systems (Beta) version instead, and it works fine at the moment. Maybe it’s an Apple silicon compatibility problem? I had a couple of other programs that don’t work with M1 processors as well. Not sure what version is found on the App Store. I do like the convenience of getting updates from the App Store, but if the app doesn’t work there’s no point.

The problem is (unfortunately again) related to the Appstore build - using the DMG version usually works better these days, but that’s something Mattermost needs to fix and I’m posting about this issues regularly in the community forums, will see if I can get some traction on it.

Can someone please share the logs of the appstore build after you reproduced the issue?

Debug shows nothing special Warp

I am new to this forum but want to say that I am experiencng the same issue with 5.3.1 - it has simply stopped working on my Macbook Air. I have deleted the app several times and re-installed from the App Store, and updated the Mac OS to make sure it was not incompatible. The Mattermost 5.3.1 simply will not l oad and open on the desk top. I really hope this can be fixed soon.

Since today (8th May), I have experienced the same issue with Mattermost 5.3.1. My workaround is to use Mattermost in my browser.

As of yesterday (10 May), I also had this issue on my work machine. Needed to restart the machine (Mattermost working perfectly normally), and on restart, the program would boot without a window. Deleted and reinstalled (App Store version), same issue. I’ve got it up and working with the GitHub version, but it’s definitely an issue that it won’t update from that file.

ETA: @agriesser I went looking for the logs, and I can’t see the Containers folder that is specified by the file path in the docs. I can get to the Library, so either that file is hidden to my access level or it’s not being created by the broken version. But whatever it is persists after it breaks and only applies to the App Store version. I went back and reinstalled the App Store version after successfully signing in to the GitHub version. It overwrote the application, and when I quit and reopened, the issue reappeared.

Tried to recreate on my personal machines, but both my 2013 iMac and my M2 Air load the program fine on install and after restart.

Hi @BaggersIO and welcome to the Mattermost forums!

Would it be possible to upload the logs from the desktop app somewhere so we can have a look?

@duskpunkzebra also welcome to the Mattermost forums and thanks for the detailed information.
The ~Library/Containers folder is a system folder used by all containerized applications, so it probably is hidden, but you should be able to open it after pressing Cmd + Shift + . - can you try that? This should toggle the display of hidden files and folders in Finder.

@agriesser

Hey, I copied the logs starting from April 25th. Unfortunately, it stopped working on May 08th. Because of privacy reasons, I removed the debugging records of shared files.

I see the Mattermost process running, but the GUI does not appear. (Mattermost Helper & Mattermost Helper (GPU)).

Thank you for your help!

Hi there,

This morning Mattermost stopped working on my Mac as well. The machine was in standby and was everything was working correctly when I left it last week.

Reinstalling the App Store version doesn’t help.

Let me know if I can help.

Hi @pagaille and welcome to the Mattermost forums!

Can you please try to use the non-appstore version for the time being? Not sure if 5.4 (should be released soon) will fix all these issues, but for now using the non-appstore version is your best option I’m afraid.
