Mattermost Omnibus will reach end-of-life with the final release v10.12 (September 2025). Starting with Mattermost v11 (October 2025), there will be no more mattermost-omnibus releases as we focus resources on deployment methods that provide better long-term value for our users.
What This Means for You:
Your current Omnibus installation will continue working exactly as it does today until you decide to migrate. However, after v10.12, you won’t receive security updates or new features through Omnibus. This is why we recommend migrating to one of our supported deployment methods, which will ensure you continue receiving security patches and feature updates.
Why This Change Benefits You:
The supported deployment methods offer significant advantages that will improve your Mattermost experience. You’ll get better security and support through regular updates. These production-tested setups provide improved reliability and come with extensive documentation that makes troubleshooting much easier.
Most importantly, you’ll have guaranteed compatibility with all upcoming Mattermost features, plus the flexibility to customize your deployment as your team’s needs evolve over time.
Your Migration Options:
1. Standard Ubuntu/RHEL Deployment (Recommended)
This is the most direct replacement for Omnibus functionality. You’ll get a production-ready setup with better component separation, giving you full control over Postgres, Nginx, and other components. You’ll find extensive documentation to guide you through the process. See the complete guide at https://docs.mattermost.com/deployment-guide/server/deploy-linux.html
2. Docker
If you’re looking for the most straightforward migration path from Omnibus, Docker is an excellent choice. It offers simplified updates and maintenance while ensuring consistent deployment across different environments. This option works particularly well for smaller teams who want reliability without complexity. Full instructions are available at https://docs.mattermost.com/deployment-guide/server/deploy-containers.html
3. Kubernetes
For organizations that require high availability, Kubernetes provides the best solution. It scales automatically as your team grows and offers enterprise-grade reliability with advanced monitoring capabilities. While it requires more initial setup, it’s the ideal choice for mission-critical deployments. Learn more at https://docs.mattermost.com/deployment-guide/server/deploy-kubernetes.html

Timeline:
With v10.12 being the final release in September 2025, no more security patches or new features will be available through Omnibus after that point. Your current installation will continue working fine, so you can plan your migration at a pace that works for your team. We recommend reviewing the deployment guide to choose the best option for your specific needs whenever you’re ready to transition.
We understand migrations require time and planning. The supported deployment methods will provide you with a more secure and maintainable Mattermost experience going forward.
