Should Theme sync across devices?

I notice that if I update the Theme on one device that theme is applied on all other devices.

In most cases, this is likely a good feature, but it would be nice to be able force a specific Theme on a specific device/be able to opt out of Theme syncing/or just drop Theme syncing altogether.

My use case:

I have an many computing devices that I run the Mattermost apps on, and I prefer darker themes on most of them, but I also have an Android based e-ink device and e-ink devices typically handle dark themes poorly. The Mattermost app looks pretty great on my e-ink device with a light theme on it, but those themes blast my eyes on my other mobile devices.

Do people expect that themes sync across devices? Would they be sad if they didn’t any more? If they would be sad, would it be worth the effort to add extra complexity to be able to turn off Theme syncing as a stored preference at the account level, or the ability force a specific theme on a specific device at the device level?

Hi Nate! Thank you for sharing your detailed use case and thoughts on theme syncing. It’s great feedback! While theme syncing is currently a global setting across devices, I can see how having per-device theme customization could be valuable, especially for unique devices like your e-ink reader. I encourage you to submit your suggestion on our UserVoice Forum so it can be considered for future updates. In the meantime, you can find more details about theme customization in our Theme Settings documentation. Let us know if there’s anything else we can assist with!

Thanks for the suggestion. I visited the UserVoice Forum and found a request from 5 years ago that detailed the same issue. I upvoted it rather than creating a new one.
