Voice Messages — Is this on the roadmap?

Hi Mattermost community,

I’ve been running a self-hosted Mattermost instance and one feature I keep missing is native voice messages.

Voice messages have become a standard communication primitive — WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal all support them, and for async communication they’re often faster and more natural than typing, especially on mobile.

We’re also using Mattermost as the communication layer for AI agents, and that’s actually where voice messages would be most valuable: being able to send a quick voice note to an agent instead of typing out a full prompt would make the interaction feel much more natural and fluid.

A few questions for the team and community:

  1. Is voice messaging on the roadmap? If so, what’s the current status?

  2. Is there an open issue or RFC I can follow or upvote?

  3. Are there known technical or architectural reasons this hasn’t landed yet?

Would love to hear where this stands.
